“Research and Write: Famous African Americans” is a writing project focused on learning about famous African Americans and challenges they overcame to make a difference. It was designed with third grade students in mind, but could easily be used or adapted for other grades, too.
This product guides students in their notetaking and provides a graphic organizer to plan their writing to summarize their learning.
This project can be connected to the following CCSS:
RI.3.1- Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
W.3.2- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
W.3.4- With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose.
W.3.7- Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic
The resource includes a student direction sheet, research note taking guide, student reflection note taking guide, and a graphic organizer for students to plan their writing. Just make the copies, and your students are ready to begin!
