Product Description
This is a mini-unit in which students research slave narratives and, first, compare and contrast the lives of two former slaves, and, second, compose an original piece of historical fiction using details from the era of Segregation. This mini-unit was designed to complement a concurrent novel study of "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." This product includes the following:

1. A unit pacing guide and an introductory PowerPoint
2. A graphic organizer for researching slave narratives
3. A compare/contrast writing frame for students who need the support
4. A rubric for the Slave Narrative Comparison paper
5. A graphic organizer for students to create an original work of historical fiction, set in the Southern United States, in the 1930s
6. A model of an original piece of historical fiction (which I wrote following the graphic organizer)
7. A rubric for the Historical Fiction Piece
