Contains 3 documents: Blank Illinois Residential Lease (but you can use any states general residential rental lease), document with grid-type list of lease problems (for cutting up), and the lease assessment.
I designed this to fold critical reading skills and writing skills into something students could identify using in the future, in the "real world." Each student got a blank copy of the lease and I spent part of the class for about a week going over the sections and talking about what it all meant (they were very into this). After that, the Lease Problems can be used in a number of different ways. You can have small groups pick 1 or more problems out of an envelope and decide how they will respond. You can have them present, write their answer, or do postings on the wall. Finally, the assessment has a list of 3 questions (directions say to choose one, of course you can change this) that are similar to the "problems" they worked on previously.
