Supporting Indigenous Resources for Inclusion Learning for Elementary School Students

First Steps in Understanding Residential Schools is a unit created to support many beautifully written and illustrated books that tell the stories of First Nation, Inuit and Metis children attending residential schools. This unit is specifically geared towards primary students.

This short story unit was created to support a single read-aloud book, should a class set be unavailable.

No prep, easy to use reading response pages designed to focused on each reading strategy identified above are provided for multi-learning levels. Early primary to early intermediate will have success using these response pages.

Also included: student assessment rubric for each story and BC Core Competency Student Reflection pages (as seen in Preview picture.) Generic self reflection (without "Core Competency" title) are also included.
