People often wonder why there was not more Jewish resistance during the Holocaust. This misguided belief fails to take note of the many different forms that resistance assumed: spiritual, physical and military. High 5 Achievers want students to understand that the Jewish people were not simply passive bystanders to their destruction. This English and social studies lesson plan, aligned to the Common Core State Standards, requires students to explore the different uprisings during the Holocaust. Students will choose a particular uprising and, in a well-organized essay, answer a series of questions relating to the uprising. The lesson plan suggests several websites that students may access to research their chosen topic.
