It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction waterl terminology (soil water, groundwater, watershed, reservoir, well, runoff, irrigation, and ice cap).
• Explanation of two basic water types (fresh water and salt water)
• Students will learn that most of the Earth is covered in water, but much of the freshwater is in glaciers and ice caps.
• Watershed, soil water, and groundwater discussed.
• Introduction to reservoirs, wells, and runoff water.
• Water treatment cycle explained.
• Some uses for water discussed (including irrigation).

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students identifying terminology through a matching activity. Terms included are fresh water, salt water, ice cap, well, reservoir, soil water, groundwater, runoff, irrigation, and watershed.
• Activity two has students identifying/moving the steps in the water treatment cycle into a picture. Steps include:
- Water supply
- Filtering of large objects
- Chemical treatment
- Settling basin
- Sand/Gravel
- Chlorine addition/reservoir
- Pump
- Community receiving water

Soil – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction soil terminology (humus, horizon, soil profile, topsoil, subsoil, pore spaces, porous, and permeability).
• Explanation for the make-up of soil
• Introduction to horizons
• The properties of soil for sand, silt, and clay
• Four factors affecting soil
• The importance of soil types

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students identifying terminology through a matching activity. Terms included are humus, horizon, soil profile, topsoil, subsoil, pore spaces, porous, and permeability.
• Activity two has students moving identification terms into a picture of a soil profile. Terms include: horizon A, horizon, B, horizon C, horizon D, topsoil, subsoil, weathered bedrock, and bedrock.

Rocks and Minerals – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with three fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction to minerals.
• 4 properties for identifying minerals.
• Moh’s Hardness Scale diagram.
• Igneous rocks defined/explained.
• Sedimentary rocks and relative age explained.
• Metamorphic rocks introduced.
• Explanation of the rock cycle.
• Uses for rocks and minerals.

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students answering 7 questions from a mineral properties chart.
• Activity two has students moving identification terms into a picture of the rock cycle. Terms include: deposition, melting, eruption, cooling, sediment, magma, igneous rock, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock.
• Activity three has students matching definitions to terms/pictures from the presentation. Included vocabulary – mineral, magma, igneous rock, relative age, sedimentary rock, metamorphic rock, resources, and rock cycle.
Fossils and Resources – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction fossil and resource terminology (fossil, amber, mold, cast, imprint, fossil fuel, nonrenewable resource, and renewable resource).
• How scientists study fossils and how they some of their interpretations of data they collect
• Explanation of geologic time and how it relates to rock layers
• Fossil fuels along with some of the negative results from their use
• How coal is formed
• Description of alternative energy

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students identifying terminology through a matching activity. Terms included are fossil, amber, mold, cast, imprint, fossil fuel, nonrenewable resource, renewable resource, geologic time, and alternative energy.
• Activity two has students identifying/matching 5 types of alternative energy. There is also a short writing assignment (listing for SMARTBoard) where students discuss a time that they have seen alternative energy in use, where, and how they thought it was being used. If you feel that the all of the students have not seen alternative energy in use before, the listing/SMARTBoard activity would probably be of more use than the PDF version so they can learn through other student’s experiences.
Conservation and Pollution – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation.
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction terminology (environment, pollution, acid rain, conservation, compost, reduce, reuse, and recycle).
• Explanation of the environment, air pollution, and the formation of acid rain
• Descriptions of land and water pollution
• 3 ways individuals can conserve soil explained (contour plowing, crop rotation, and compost)
• Conserving water and brief explanation of sewage treatment
• The 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle)

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students identifying terminology through a matching activity. Terms included are environment, pollution, acid rain, conservation, compost, reduce, reuse, recycle, contour plowing, and crop rotation).
• Activity two has 5 pictured activities that students will explain how to conserve during the pictured activity. There is a sixth box without a picture that students will illustrate their own activity and describe the conservation technique.
