Number Sense comes to life for a week or more!
After hundreds of hours of design, creation, and game play, my Number Sense Resources Game is ready to be shared! Up to 30 students in a classroom will be engaged with a simulation math experience that has students gathering and trading resources in order to build up their country. These resources can be used to purchase country development cards and prestige. Students use an accounting spreadsheet to keep track and 'audit' their basic resources and in doing so make many mathematic equations and estimations. Logical reasoning is enhanced from making trades and purchases, and an understanding of probability provides benefits to the team. Students also order and compare large numbers throughout the game. This group game utilizes the many benefits of collaborative learning in an environment where all learners are engaged actively in mathematics.
This zip file is very comprehensive and user friendly- it has everything you will need for a few weeks worth of quality Number sense lessons including:
-A teaching guide with detailed explanations about aspects of the game and suggestions
-Formative and Summative Assessment suggestions
-3 scaffolded Introduction Powerpoint Lessons to teach your class how to play, with images and activities
-All formated game pieces with clear printing instructions
-Accounting spreadsheets with built in auditing for students
-End of game reflection
-Extension suggestions for older students or those who wish to play the game for an extended period of time (beyond two weeks).
I assure you and your students that this will be a fantastic addition to any math unit! I am happy to answer any questions about this resource, and have included my instructions for how to play (teaching powerpoint) available for free download.
