Resources for Spanish teachers (food unit/menus/realia/bell-ringers)
I recently honeymooned in Mallorca, Spain...and brought my camera to every restaurant, snapping pictures of menus and signs to bring back to my classroom :) My husband was ready to kill me :)
I love using realia in my classroom, so I compiled 51 slides to coordinate with the food unit. These menus and signs are great to spark conversation about tapas; regional foods (like jamón serrano, paella, pa amb oli); meal times; “menú del día” and courses; official languages of Spain; the conversion of Euros to dollars; the use of the comma in place of the decimal; military time; IVA; portion sizes compared to U.S. standards; tourism; etc.
Choose a slide to use as a bell-ringer or a hook, or to generate critical thinking and comparisons to the U.S. culture.
Hope you like these! Please leave feedback when you get the chance!
