Respect your teacher! These tongue-in-cheek "respect your teacher" cards were created specifically to help tame classroom misbehavior. Created by a counselor who deals with challenging students daily, these clever prompts are based on years of experience. When we handle disrespect in a particular way, we outsmart our unruly students and gain immediate respect.#power to the teacher!
How to use these cards:
Choose specific writing prompts to match up with particular transgressions, or have students pick random prompts out of a box. Do not present these writing prompts as punishment, but rather, as an opportunity for students to shine as positivity rappers. Smile sweetly and announce, “Since you are obviously bored with the usual happenings in our classroom, here is something I believe you will enjoy more. Look… Isn’t this fun?”
Solo writing only. Explain that partner writing was taken off the table by the disruptive behavior. Possibly in the future, if all goes well, the option of writing in teams could be put back on the table. But for now – kids are on their own.
When raps are finalized, they must be written out neatly and properly. If time allows, have your students rap their masterpiece in front of their peers. It's a great way to underline the lesson of respect :-)
*40 writing prompt cards on the theme of teacher respect. Some ideas are presented tongue-and-cheek, some are straight forward.
*40 cards created in black and white for saving ink. These are not just greyscale versions of the first set of cards. These cards were created to look wonderful on their own as well as being ink efficient.
