This short unit includes lessons on figurative language and forms of poetry. We used this unit in our 8th grade low-level IB class as a follow-up to an earlier unit in which we used the TIPCASTT method to analyze poems. Our goal this time was to have the students construct well-written, detailed responses to the poems - not to necessarily analyze every minute detail, but to discover and respond to theme. This unit includes prompts that our students really responded to. I did not include the actual poems for copyright reasons, but I would highly suggest using the poems that are suggested. Our eighth grade students responded very favorably to the variety of poems presented. A test is included.
