My school used the Reader's Workshop approach to teaching reading and we used the "7 Keys to Comprehension" as our model. I firmly believe that reading and writing go hand-in-hand so I always wanted to have my students write about what they were listening to and reading. With first graders though, more often than not it was helpful to have a template to get them started!
Included in this download are two versions of the same sheet. One is for when students listen to a story, and the other is for when they read a story on their own. This sheet asks students to come up with three important details of the story and they also have to elaborate and tell WHY they feel those parts of the story are important.
