Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to teach your students to write in complete sentences when they answer questions? You've come to the right place! These restating-the-question activities focus on how to turn the question around and provide answers in a way that puts the question in the answer. This resource contains a 44-slide PowerPoint, a matching companion handout, and SIX worksheets that can be used to provide a follow-up practice opportunity.

I have also included a document that contains Google Slides links. Students can complete the companion handout and the practice worksheets on a device, if you wish.

HERE'S THE SEQUENCE OF TOPICS COVERED IN THIS POWERPOINT:

Slides 1-7: Introduction

Slides 8-28: Instructions on how to Turn the Question Around

Slides 29-34: Practice with Personal Questions

Slides 35-39: Practice Slides: Four Fiction Passages

  • Students read a passage and answer two comprehension questions.

Slides 40-44: Practice Slides: Four Nonfiction Passages

  • Students read a passage and answer two comprehension questions.

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

The SIX worksheets provide an excellent follow-up opportunity for your students to practice the skill of restating the question when forming an answer. The worksheet packet features three fiction passages and three nonfiction passages. After reading each passage, students answer three comprehension questions.

Here's what teachers like you have to say about this PowerPoint:

  • Kyra L. said, "This what a great resource to help reteach the skill of restating questions. I liked how it went from sentences, to small passages, to large ones."

  • Rachel T. said, "My students enjoyed this resource and were engaged. We walked through most of it together and they loved how easy it made restating. The steps to follow in order to determine what part of the sentence they would use to restate were very helpful. We enjoyed the short, but engaging reading passages to use, as well."

  • Ann Marie M. said, "I loved this resource and so did my students. It breaks down how to restate a question step-by-step and my students were successful after watching the presentation."

  • Jennifer S. said, "This resource is engaging and easy to use. There are lots of slides to use to teach the students and then also many more for the students to practice with."
