A huge hit each and every year! The students actually beg to work on it! Easily usable for fourth through eighth grade. A great unit through which to address narrative and expository style writing, developing and supporting a thesis, descriptive writing, similes and metaphors, using mentor texts, composing formal letters, and addressing envelopes. Plus, it is a lot of fun!
Local restaurants have responded really well to the project and have actually written students back (and even sent gift cards back as "thank you's"). Parents also love the project! Students can review a restaurant, fast food joint, their kitchen table, or even the school cafeteria! The unit it scheduled to take one month, but you can easily adjust it to as short as a week or as long as two months.
This is a comprehensive unit! It includes project overview, detailed grading rubric, restaurant review example, formal letter example, guided worksheet for exploring real restaurant reviews, restaurant review outline, independent revising and editing checklist, partner revising and editing checklist, reflection worksheet, spelling and vocabulary word list, spelling and vocabulary word test and answer key, and teacher notes with recommended unit schedule.
