I use this graphic organizer in my guided reading/intervention groups lessons. It helps my students keep track of story elements as they are reading. The knot represents a problem (B) and the rope without a knot represents the solution (S). There are two versions of this organizer one for regular size and mini sticky it notes.
Print out the sheet and place in a plastic sleeve. I place a sticky note in each box and as students are reading they place the sticky notes in their book. If a story has more than one problem, I add more "W" for wanted and "B" for But sticky notes (see 2nd picture for an example). This organizer holds students accountable for keeping track of what the character wants and the problems the character has. At the end of the story, students can use their sticky notes to help retell the most important part of the story.
