A different way to have students think about Beginning, Middle and End is in using the "Somebody Wanted But So Then" strategy. When they use this strategy, students rarely forget important events like problem and solution nor do they include more details than necessary.
An example: Max (the somebody) wanted a new toy, but he didn't have the money. So, he made a lemonade stand to raise his own money. Then he got to go buy his toy with the money he made.
