Do you feel like you’re always looking for new and creative ways to engage your students in reading? Well, you’re not alone! I recently came across the idea of using puzzles to retell stories and LOVED the idea! I created these retelling puzzles for your students to use along with the Reading Street 3rd grade stories for the WHOLE year! They’ll be able to practice their reading comprehension, summarizing, sequencing, and retelling in a fun way…putting together puzzles and drawing illustrations!
For these activities your students will write a paragraph retell of the story in the top section of the puzzle, then using the 3 smaller puzzle pieces illustrate the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
Although the majority of these activities correlate with the Reading Street series, I’ve also included a blank version that can be used to retell ANY text, fiction or nonfiction.
This file contains 31 retelling puzzles, 30 of which correlate with the 2013 Reading Street 3rd grade curriculum, and also a blank puzzle template to be used with ANY story.
