Students learn about Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401Ks and 403Bs. The lesson compares the advantages and disadvantages of each type of retirement account. There are questions requiring students to calculate the amount of income tax they would pay for a Traditional vs Roth IRA. Questions also highlight the fact that when and which tax bracket you are in when you do pay tax makes a HUGE difference in which type of account you should open.
I am also licensed to prepare tax returns. One of the most devastating things I see is that folks are not aware of the tax benefits and implications when they contribute and take distributions from their retirement accounts. My students are very surprised to learn about these differences and some have even gone home and educated their parents - which they absolutely love! :-)
