Return to Sender by Julia Alvarez addresses contemporary topics and themes from immigration to global warming within the context of friendship. While reading Return to Sender, students will develop an understanding of character development, author’s point-of-view, and explore themes of friendship, family, home, and growth and change. Students will also work across genres as they short research projects that delve deeper into the issue of immigration and use that knowledge to understand the story.
With this literature guide, students will write about what they read as they answer vocabulary and comprehension questions, and answer longer opinion, argument, and research questions. They'll come ready to talk about and discuss what they've read and are sure to develop new ideas and opinions.
