CREATE POEMS THAT READ TOP TO BOTTOM AND BOTTOM TO TOP TO SHOW DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF HISTORY! With this unit, students will extend understanding of a historical time period to consider the complication behind the facts of more than one side of history. The reverse poem allows higher level students to explore beyond the textbook and see the facets of human history. With the guided templates and brainstorm, students will successfully work through the complex poetic style of Jonathan Reed. Extension activities for a Chautatqua are included. I used this with 150 students at different levels (ranging from 1st to 12th grade reading levels) and they were all able to create poetry. Can be done with partners or individually. Part of the "Examining History Through Poetry" Bundle.
