Instructional Strategies: Teacher will direct the students through a irreversible and reversible changes card sort. The teacher needs to make sure to introduce the vocabulary words prior to beginnig the activity.
Irreversible change: a chemical or physical change that is not able to be undone. A reversible change might change how a material looks or feels, but it doesn't create new materials.
Reversible change: a chemical or physical change that is able to be undone. In an irreversible change, new materials are always formed. Sometimes these new materials are useful to us.
You can do the activity a few different ways, the students can do it individually, whole group, or in groups of 3-4 which is what I recommend. The more groups you have the more copies of the activity you will need.
Differentiation: The sort has two options for the students that struggle with the concept of heating and cooling. The first options has directional arrows and for your students that need more of a challenge the 2nd set has no directional arrows.
Assessment: Teacher will assess students through observation. Teachers will ask guiding questions as needed.
