Review Activities for ANY Material, All Disciplines 6-9

In this packet, you’ll find six fun activities to help your students review before a major assessment.

What’s inside:

“Puzzle Piece Review”: Students use this handout to create four review puzzle piece pairs, putting an important term on one side of the puzzle, and the definition on the other. Then let them cut them out and bring the puzzle pairs to your desk. Finally, let students, in pairs, take out two sets of puzzle pieces to put together for a fun review. Keep letting them trade in until you run out of time.

“Review: The 60 Second Version”: For this activity, you give each partnership the handout and an important topic relating to the unit you are reviewing. Using the handout, they come up with a way to review the material for their classmates in just 60 seconds. Save time at the end of class for each group to present their quick version of the material.

“The Review Mural”: For this activity, paired students use the handout and an assigned topic to come up with a section of a review mural they could put up on the board. They draw a small version on the handout and then transfer it to a section of the board (which you have sectioned off). You might want to give each group a little time at the end of class to explain how their mural conveys the important information relating to their topic. Perhaps you might let students take pictures of the class mural to help them study. Or you can take a picture and photocopy it for everyone.

“One Dozen Review Donuts”: (This activity, expanded, is also available in my store on its own). Students imagine they were allowed to bring in a dozen donuts to their assessment, frosted with any information they want. They use the handout to come up with the twelve most important facts, dates, etc. from the material. Save some time at the end for students to walk around and see each others’ donuts.

“The Obstacle Course”: For this activity, students imagine they were going to create a review obstacle course around campus. As students progressed through the tasks, they would need to show they understood the material. You can let students work alone or in pairs or groups. If you have time, you might wish to choose some of the tasks the students come up with to create a real review obstacle course for your students to complete during the next class period.

“Review Cereal”: For this lighthearted activity, students imagine they were creating a cereal that would help others review the material at hand. They come up with a name, a picture, and a list of ingredients that somehow reflect the most vital material. Let students showcase their cereals at the end, or put them up for a fun wall or bulletin board display.
