This winter themed set contains 5 activities for students to use on their own or in cooperative pairs in order to review basic addition and subtraction facts (1-20). All 5 activities are low or no prep -easy to print and go!
Subtraction Fact Race
Directions: Each pair of students needs a set of red cards, a set of green cards, and a recording sheet. Each player chooses the red or green stack of cards. Players take turns drawing a card and saying the answer. If both players agree the answer is correct, that player colors in the matching number on their side of the paper. The first to color in all the spaces is the winner. 2 recording sheets are included: 1 with numbers filled in, and 1 blank for your own numbers.
One more/one less Mitten and Hat Sets
Directions: The object of the game is to collect as many sets of one hat and two mittens as possible. Each player starts with 9 cards. Players ask one another for the cards they need to match the hats they have. For example, if a player has hat number 2, she will ask for the card that says "one more than 1" or "one less than 3" to complete the set. This could also be played as a concentration game with a reduced set of cards.
Directions: To play, the student needs 3 dice and a recording sheet. Students roll the three dice, add the numbers, and color the corresponding circle on the mitten.
Fact Family Snowmen
Directions: Students use the three snowmen given to write the fact family equations for that set.
Hats, Mittens, and Snowballs
Directions: The student draws one hat card and one mitten card and writes the numbers on the recording sheet. The student then adds or subtracts the two numbers and writes the answer on the snowball.
