This is a 20 page packet intended to help students review literary elements they have already learned. I use this packet when my students have already shown mastery of the definitions of each literary device being used. It's purpose is to help the student apply their knowledge of the device to analyzing music. The packet includes:
A Literary Device definitions sheet
18 songs from various genres
The students will look into the lyrics, pick out the correct element being used, highlight where in the song it was found, and write the element down on the corresponding line. Furthermore, they are asked to identify the rhyme scheme, theme, and tone of each song.
*This is not an activity I would use to begin teaching literary elements, as it requires the student to have a knowledge of the elements being used. However, it makes a great application and review activity.
