This lesson has a variety of uses. This year I used it as a warm up at the start of the school year, to see what the student's preconceptions about science were. I then took the art they created and used it to create a great bulletin board display in our hallway. With this activity, you print out the worksheets (there are 4 designs, to add interest if you are displaying their work), then pose a question to the students that they have to illustrate. In the case of my lesson I had students illustrate, "What is Science?". You can use this for any subject science, electives, english, math, history and social studies. I have also used it as an exit slip and as a way to preview and uncover misconceptions. Included in this lesson are all of the printouts you need, an illustration of how to use the information in a bulletin board display and some suggestions for application of the activity to many subject areas. This activity is perfect for any age group as it does not require an ability to write. So you can use it no matter if you are an elementary, middle school or high school teacher.
