This Powerpoint presentation is a summary of the uses of the primary verb tenses and moods in Spanish. It is not a review of how the tenses are formed; instead, it is an explanation of how they are used. It is appropriate for intermediate-high students that have already learned the morphology of Spanish verb tenses. Students are encouraged to think analytically and make their own generalizations about challenging contrasts such as preterite/imperfect and indicative/subjunctive.
The review begins with discussion questions designed to spark conversation about history, culture and geography. The slides then present the material in the context of the Spanish Conquista of the indigenous cultures of the Americas.
When I use this presentation in class, I use many graphics to illustrate the stories told within. I have deleted those images to respect the owners' copyrights; I leave it up to you whether or not you wish to expand this presentation with such material.
