Want your students to dig deeply into the text of Homer’s classic tale, The Odyssey? Use this 25-question quotation race as a review activity after they’ve completed their long journey across the Mediterranean Sea with our hero, Odysseus.
Break students into teams of two. Using their books, study questions/materials, and their brains, they will race against the rest of the class to correctly name all 25 of the characters on the two worksheets. The worksheets come into an easy-to-print/copy PDF format. The answer key is also included, of course.
Student teams must write the name of the character to which the highlighted pronoun refers in each question. Be sure to really challenge them by requiring that all of the characters’ names be correctly spelled.
The team with the highest number of correct answers wins. In case of a tie, the winning team is the one that turned in its paper first.
Stand back and watch as students dig into the text and frantically discuss with each other the numerous characters and plot points, both big and small, of this epic adventure from Ancient Greece. Fun enrichment and/or review activity.
Duration: 20-to-30 minutes, but might be a bit longer if you review answers with the class immediately following the game.
