Revising – The Writing Process Kids Love to Skip
Revising and Proofreading Worksheet Set
The PowerPoint presentation introduces the revising step of the writing process. It teaches students several specific methods of revising their writing. Examples and practice are provided for the following methods of revising: adding content, deleting content, changing the order, changing the point of view or the tense, adding or replacing specific words, and adding dialog. A student notebook page is also included which can be printed out in advance for students to complete as they view the slides.
The worksheet set consists of fifteen worksheets which provide students with lots of practice on two important steps of the writing process: revising and proofreading. The revising topics include: organizing, adding descriptive words, omitting unnecessary words, adding dialog, and revising to change tense. The proofreading topics include: fragments, comma splices, run-on sentences, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, choosing the correct homophone, and writing dialog. Practice is provided with sentences, paragraphs, and two longer passages. These activities are also great for quick assessments.
