Description

These task cards provide students with practice revising - an important part of the writing process - by working on specific revisions one at a time. The specific revisions include:

Removing unnecessary words

Adding details

Replacing common words

Using pronouns to replace nouns

Changing word order

Changing tense or point of view

Using active instead of passive voice

Using direct quotes

Adding figurative language

There are 30 cards in the set. Most of the cards present four sentences with directions to make a specific type on revision to each card. The three final cards each present a short paragraph with directions to make a number of revisions to each. The cards are designed with content and clip art for middle school and upper elementary students.

Each of these cards is designed specifically for revising, where students aim to improve the writing, not just correct errors. Even though there isn't one correct answer for each question, an answer key is provided with possible answers.

These task cards are designed for middle school and upper elementary kids. The cards are large – two cards per page and have more content per card than many of the smaller task cards – perfect for older kids who can handle more than one quick question per card.

Also included is a list of suggestions for ways to use task cards and a list of suggestions for easy differentiation with task cards.

The Easel Activity is a digital version that is ready to use with one card per slide. It is ready for student use with answer boxes and directions already in place.

For the Google Slides version, see Revising - Task Cards and Google Slides.
