The importance of students clearly understanding what they are expected to know, and being able to work in collaboration with the teacher on their goals and outcomes, is an essential component of the assessment process.
This unique, easy to fold template (including ten Stage 3 mathematics examples) is a fun way to summarise student's learning outcomes as questions, formulas, explanations, or leave blank in order for students to include what they choose. In alignment with syllabus outcomes, students who have an understanding of what they are doing and how they are doing it get their taco stamped and keep it to jolt their memory when refreshing their skills.
In the classroom I saw the value of using these Learning Tacos as it prompted students to help explain and reason with one another, and gave students autonomy over their own learning by providing the answers on the taco for them to check and work backwards if they got an answer wrong. This fun resource prompts students to ask questions, problem solve and know clearly what is expected of them while prompting prior knowledge.
