This is an activity I did with my 8th graders as we read George vs. George. They were each assigned an issue related to the American Revolution and a side to argue for. It's a great way to introduce the Revolution and core writing/speaking skills.
Included are the handout I gave students to introduce the activity and the worksheet they filled out as they created their arguments. They are required to come up with a claim, provide evidence for that claim, and include commentary on their evidence.
