I use this in my room to deepen students’ understanding of important Revolutionary War figures. By relating it to their modern day life through text messages, it helps my students really understand characters from history! Students need to explain their answer and apply their revolutionary war knowledge!
TWO ENGAGING OPTIONS:
OPTION ONE: HISTORICAL FIGURES
I use this to review specific historical figures and have included facts that I teach my students in class. These figures are George Washington, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, King George III, Paul Revere, Jack Jouett, and James Armistead Lafayette. If you don’t teach about these specific figures, then option two is also a great way to use this activity!
OPTION TWO: PATRIOTS, LOYALISTS, & NEUTRAL COLONISTS
Use this lesson to have students analyze the characteristics of patriots, loyalists, and neutral colonists during the Revolutionary War. They can analyze each text conversation and determine what group the texters would have belonged to and explain why.Recording sheets and answer keys for both options are included.
