This is a 12 page packet, 8 of which are part of the actual assignment. This is a sequel to my “Colonial America Student Project”, in that students read a scenario which puts them in the story. They will journey to an American Revolutionary battlefield as a student journalist. Upon arriving on the battlefield, they will gather information needed to use towards writing a newspaper article, about the battle. In their article they will include information about an interview they have with a significant person involved in some way with the event.
Included among the battles to choose from are: The Battle of Lexington and Concord, Battle of Bunker Hill, Battle at Trenton, Battle of Saratoga, and the Battle at Yorktown. If you want to include additional battles for students to choose from, you can include your list as well.
Included in this 12 page packet is the following:
A story that leads students into the past, the assignment explained in detail, written instructions so that students will easily understand what to do, newspaper template for the assignment, an extra credit assignment, and a generic newspaper template for you to use towards a future assignment.
In writing this assignment, my intentions were to involve and engage students wholeheartedly. I also hoped they would get a better understanding about the battles that led our country to independence. Using novel ideas are a good way to get students excited about learning.
