Use this presentation to help introduce or review the rhetorical triangle (ethos, pathos, logos) with your students. This 19 slide ppt. is packed with definitions, and examples for each part of the triangle.
My students who come from a rural area and particularly enjoy each of the linked commercial examples for Chevy showing how one brand can use each type of rhetoric to convince their audience to buy their product (While I don't know a lot about cars, they like the truck debate). Students also respond well to the commercial Eminem did for Chrysler.
I originally created this to supplement an argument unit for 9th grade, but what you see is an updated version I used to accompany a close read of "Civil Disobedience" by Thoreau. Slide 18 lists examples pulled from Thoreau's writing. This resource can be used in conjuncture with either of these two things or as a stand alone lesson!
