Rhyming is a critical pre-reading skill. These videos are a quick way to warm-up kids to the day’s literacy activities. This rhyming video for kindergarten, preschool, and first grade is a great addition to a literacy classroom.
There is 1 video and it is two minutes and two seconds, and a video guide to the pictures. The way it works is as you play the video, two objects appear on the screen one at a time. Then each one blinks, and then you name the pictures with your class, then there is a delay so your kids can determine if the pictures rhyme. If they do, a checkmark appears and applause, if they don’t rhyme an “x" appears and an explosion sound. Please note that you say the pictures. The video does not name the pictures, you will.
There are two follow-ups that you can use with the kids. One asks kids to draw two pictures from the video that rhyme and two that don’t. The second follow-up is determining which picture doesn’t rhyme. This would make for a quick assessment.
This is a fun and engaging way to help kids identify rhyme.
