Want a quick and easy way to practice rhyming with your class?
This is part 2 of my first rhyming power point. This one also displays two pictures that may or may not be a rhyming pair. Your students will give you a thumbs-up if the pictures rhyme or thumbs-down if they don’t. Give the mouse a click to see a thumbs-up or thumbs-down picture appear for immediate feedback. The words are displayed so teachers can discuss the similar spelling patterns at the end of the 2 words.
Teaching rhyming is important for so many reasons. Rhyming is an aspect of phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is being able to identify and change sounds within the word. There is a correlation between rhyming mastery and reading preparedness. It helps children learn how language works. They become more aware of sounds within words. It is also very important for writing. Children are able to recognize spelling patterns in words more easily.
