This 2-week unit includes all the materials you need to introduce your students to the concept of rhyming. Understanding rhyming is important in building strong literacy skills. The lessons are designed to take about 10-15 minutes each day.
The unit includes the following components:
* Daily lesson guide, including Common Core alignment and student-friendly learning targets
* Power point presentation with fun animations; daily slides for whole-group or small-group practice, along with notes/suggestions for each slide
* Printable student practice pages with fun, easily-recognizable pictures
* Assessment that can be used as both a pre-test and a post-test
The lessons begin with the simplest level of understanding rhyming and move through a logical, step-by-step progression as the complexity increases. Based on your students’ needs, you may need to spend additional time on or be able to move more quickly through certain sections of the unit. If you choose to give the assessment as a pre-test, the results can help guide you in grouping students and planning your instruction. This unit is intended to provide direct instruction and focused practice with rhyming concepts.
During this 2-week unit, students will gain an in-depth understanding of this Common Core standard:
RF.K.2.a Recognize and produce rhyming words
This unit is designed for kindergarten students but may be appropriate for younger or older students who need instruction and practice with the concept of rhyming.
