Word families are an essential part of understanding phonics. This product includes an assortment of 41 word families which appear in the curriculum of most k-1 classrooms. They are, also, useful for review in second grade or for intervention plans and writing poetry at almost any grade level.
These posters are great for reference on bulletin boards, on writing or spelling centers, and for intervention with a tutor or parent. Learning words in rhyming word families is an effective strategy for learning to read. The images on each page are clues for sounding out the words on that page. As students progress down the page, words become more difficult.
Chanting little poems with rhyming words is helpful even before children know all the letters.
“The snake baked a cake, then hit it with a rake.”
“The rain fell on the train.”
“I found the clock in my sock behind a rock.”
