Why is rhyming important?
Rhyming lends itself to better phonemic awareness; the ability to break words into smaller parts and recognize smaller parts in words.
Being able to break words into smaller parts and recognize smaller parts in words is an important skill that is crucial for reading and spelling. This awareness leads to better reading and writing success.
1. Explore all the cards with your little -- Describe the object on the card and practice saying the object's name.
2. Start matching the rhyming words and mark off (on the bottom of the page) when you have found a matching set. (You can use an expo marker or stickers)
3. Complete all 10 sets together. When you find a match, make sure to emphasize HOW MUCH they sound the same!!
4. Let your little try all by himself! :)
