This is a rhyming pin wheel with 12 different color pin tags. This wheel can be used whole group, during centers, smaller groups, or to assess/help students practice. It has two level pin tags,-for readers and non readers.
Game 1: (centers) Working with a group of 3-4 students, each student takes turns guessing the rhyming word.. The teacher will point to a picture, ex: tree. “What rhymes with tree”? The first student to call out their matching rhyming picture (or holds it up first) gets to clip his/her color pin on the corresponding section of the wheel (each student should have their own color of pins). The student with the most pins, - wins.
Game 2: (whole group) copy enough wheels for each student (again, they can be laminated for continued use). Give each student their matching pin tags. (reading or non-reading). Play a racing game. The first student to pin all of their pins in the correct positions raises their hand. You will need to be watching to see who raises their hand first. After you check their pins, winner can receive a small eraser or sticker. (If you do not attach cardboard to the back of the wheels, ask students to lay the wheel flat while using, to avoid damaging. This same game can be played with smaller center groups working independently. They race each other.
