This is something that I created (though I have seen similar ideas used elsewhere) to help some of my students understand how the notes and counting go together. I originally just drew the example on sticky notes to show some of my students who were having trouble, but I thought it would be great to come up with something I could use with them and share with you!
This could be used in a class with teams creating rhythms. You could also laminate them (which I recommend anyway) and write the counts underneath the rhythms you create using dry erase markers.
- 4/4 and 3/4 measure cards (3 of each)
- Sixteenth, Eighth, Quarter, Half, Whole, and Dotted Notes
- Eighth, Quarter, Half, and Whole Rests (no 3 beat whole rests though).
I may later make a 6/8 sheet that is compatible with the notes printed here, if there is interest.
