I have found that students love to use cups for playing rhythms. I designed 5 levels of rhythms for this activity. Each level has 6 different rhythms. Print the rhythms on labels and put them on plastic cups of your choice. I bought 5 different colors of cups for each level. Students can tap the bottom of the cups or tap the cups on the floor or a table. Watch the demo video of how to use the Rhythm Cups Bundle Package that includes Rhythm Cups 1-5, Song Collection, Rubrics and Rhythm Karate: https://youtu.be/vh8vZ34qM5k
The ZIP file comes with all the instructions, PDF Files for the labels, and the Power Point Game.
Teach the students the rhythms in the level desired for your classroom. There are four suggested activities to use with the cups ranging from games to composition
Students will love playing "Rhythm Cup Baseball" and teachers will like using the Free Rubrics to assess how well students play rhythms.
I also included a power point called "Guess The Rhythm" that you can use with your projector to project all the rhythms on the screen. This can be a great way to assess students on reading rhythms and a fun game to play.
"Guess The Rhythm" Power Point Game
Variety of ways to play this game:
1)Teacher performs one of the 6 rhythms from the level and the teacher selects one student to guess the rhythm that was performed.
2)Divide the class into teams. One student at a time from each team takes turns performing a rhythm for the opposing team. Have one person from that team represent the team and let them have 60 seconds to select the correct rhythm. If the opposing teams selects the correct rhythm they get a point.
3)Play it the same way as in #2 but let the students select the level of rhythm difficulty they would like. The teacher then performs a rhythm from that level for the team. Level 1 - 1point, Level 2 - 2points and etc…
Be creative and come up with your own game using these rhythms!
