Product Description

Students can compose and practice their ensemble playing, as well as rhythm writing and values, with this fun activity! Each pair of students will create an 8-measure rhythm duet to practice and potentially perform for their peers/teacher/families, with one student writing the Primo part and the other writing the Secondo part.

Time signatures included: 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 (with an option to just do either 3/4 or 4/4). Students randomly select a time signature with a roll of a die that coordinates with a time signature on the included "Ultra Random Time Signature Selector".

Students choose rhythms from a "rhythm bank" at the bottom of the page to create their part of the duet. There are a total of 13 rhythm banks that allow you to differentiate the activity for different grades and skill levels, namely:

-Quarter note, eighth note (2 beamed)

-Quarter note, eighth note (2 beamed), quarter rest

-Quarter note, eighth note (2 beamed), half note

-Quarter note, eighth note (2 beamed), quarter rest, half note

-Quarter note, eighth note (2 beamed), quarter rest, half note, whole note

-Quarter note, half note, whole note

-Quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note

-Quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest

-Quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, eighth note (2 beamed)

-Quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, eighth note (2 beamed), half rest, whole rest

-Quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, half rest, whole rest

-Quarter note, dotted quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, eighth note (single and 2 beamed), half rest, whole rest

-Quarter note, dotted quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, eighth note (single and 2 beamed), half rest, whole rest, sixteenth note (4 beamed), triplet eighth notes

There is also a blank rhythm bank in case you would like your students to create their own pool of rhythms with which to compose.

~Instructions for teacher and students are also included, as well as a one-page sheet with rhythm writing tips for students~
