Rhythm Envelope Game: This game is perfect for practicing isolated rhythms. It can be used soon after students learn a rhythm or later as a review.

If you’re not familiar with this game, it’s very simple to teach. Each student gets an envelope with 8 rhythm cards. Teacher counts, claps or plays one of the 8 rhythms. Students individually identify which card was performed. Once all students have found the correct card, the class counts the rhythm together. This is a wonderful way to approach rhythm in a different way from the normal – see it, then count it. In this game, the students hear it, then see it, then count it.
DETAILED instructions are (with pictures) included along with a number of ways to SIMPLIFY the game and a number of ways to make it more CHALLENGING.
Volume 1 includes SEVEN individual sets:
Set 1 Focus – 4 sixteenth notes
Set 2 Focus – eighth note/2 sixteenth notes
Set 3 Focus – 2 sixteenth notes/eighth notes plus single sixteenth note/rest
Set 4 Focus – dotted eighth/sixteenth note
Set 5 Focus – eighth note/ dotted quarter note pattern
Set 6 Reviews all previous rhythms in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and common time
Set 7 Reviews all previous rhythms in 2 measure challenge chunks
EACH SET includes 8 practice flashcards with the 8 rhythms (about 3’ x 10” each) to practice the rhythms before the game as well as the 8 cards (about 1”x3” each) to cut into student sets.
