Looking for ways to sequentially teach half note? This fun series is a set of sequential half note games and activities, including half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rest.
The set allows students' understanding of half notes to get more and more complex, and will connect their present learning to previous and future learning as they continue the road trip from one location to the next over the course of several lessons! Students will go on a road trip to practice rhythm:
First stop: Reading rhythms at the San Diego Zoo (includes assessment and rubric)
Second stop: Writing rhythms in Hollywood (set includes activities for students to copy rhythms onto paper or dry erase boards)
Third stop: Playing rhythms on non-pitched percussion or barred instruments in San Antonio, Texas
Fourth stop: Identifying rhythms in Las Vegas (set includes embedded sound clips with rhythm patterns that students have to identify)
Fifth stop: Dictating in Seattle (includes a PDF slideshow with embedded sound clips and a worksheet)
Sixth stop: Composing in New York City
