This is a musical PowerPoint game that assesses rhythmic and melodic comprehension. Turn your music room into a baseball field and your students into baseball players. (The boys especially love this one!) Cut out some cardboard for bases, or get a nice foam set at the dollar store! TO PLAY: Split the class into 2 teams. Flip a coin to see who goes first. One by one, the players on that team step up to the plate and take a turn at bat. Each player chooses to try for either: a Single, Double, Triple or Home Run. (Single is easiest / Home Run is hardest!) They are shown 3 rhythms or melodies. The teacher plays one. If the student guesses correctly, they advance to the appropriate base: Single=1st, Double=2nd, Triple=3rd, HR=all the way around! If they guess incorrectly, they’re out. After 3 outs or 5 runs, it’s the next team’s turn! The 1st Half of the game is Rhythm. The 2nd Half of the game is Melody. You can either split the class period up, 15 mins/15mins, or spread over two classes. PLAY BALL!
