PowerPoint Presentation of Rhythm Pizza & Syllables*
Worksheets for Rhythm Pizza & Syllables*
This is a great lesson to associate common core with your music lesson plan! It is also a great way to build community in your classroom, as it will allow your students to analyze work by other students in the classroom in a fun, creative way.
Students will choose which ingredients will go on their pizza, and each ingredient will have a rhythm assigned to it that associates with the syllables.
Students are given five options for ingredients on their pizza, Cheese for Quarter Notes, Sausage for Eighth Notes, Pepperoni for Sixteenth Notes, and Pineapple or Tomato for a mixture of eighth and sixteenth notes.
The beginning of this lesson is a quick explanation on how students will associate rhythm with words and their syllables.
The students are given a worksheet where they will choose Four ingredients to put on their pizza which is split up into four slices. Students will draw the rhythm, and write the syllables for the ingredient under the rhythm.
Each worksheet is then collected by the teacher (you) and the teacher hands the pizza worksheets out randomly to different students.
The teacher will then go around the class student by student and ask:
"~Students Name~, who's pizza do you have? And what are the ingredients he/she used to make his/her pizza?"
After the student reads the name on the paper he/she received, and the four ingredients on the pizza, you will then lead the class in chanting the ingredients in time with the rhythms.
The PowerPoint Presentation will show a large anchor chart of the ingredients, and the rhythm that is associated with the syllables for reinforcement/redirection purposes.
