Students learn the musical elements of rhythm, tempo, and dynamics best through action, but sometimes you need new ideas. I initially created these rhythm/tempo/dynamics cards with the Kagan Fan-n-pick game in mind. Fan-n-Pick is a rhythmic activity where students work in groups. One student shows a rhythm card for another student to perform, but the leader also shows a dynamics or tempo card so the performer needs to demonstrate an understanding of those terms. The students learn to think outside the box with their answers. (See sample for more details).
Use these cards for both Kodaly and Orff-based activities and visuals such as:
