Need a fun way to practice syncopa, also called ti-ta-ti or eighth/quarter/eighth? This fun activity assesses your students' ability to aurally identify rhythmic patterns. Eight powerpoint slides come with embedded sound files; students listen to these patterns, then choose which key (or pattern) will open the door. Try to not get locked out by choosing the wrong pattern! Make sure to watch in slideshow mode so your students can hear all of the patterns.
Suggestions on how to formatively and summatively assess using this activity are included in the file. Rhythms include ta, ti-ti, rest, tika-tika, ti-tika, two or ta-a, and syncopa (quarter note, eighth notes, quarter rest, sixteenth notes, eighth/ two sixteenth notes, half note, and eighth/quarter/eighth.)
The ta and ti-ti version of this file is included in my set, More Songs and Activities to Teach Ta and Ti-Ti.
