PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS and
In addition, riddles help STRENGTHEN VOCABULARY and give students an OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH OTHERS. When a student “gets” a riddle, he or she has the opportunity to explain it to peers, helping them to interact with others in a constructive way and strengthening COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Plus, riddles are FUN!
There are various ways to use these in your classroom. You can use one (or a few) as a great OPENING ACTIVITY or as a BRAIN BREAK in between lessons. You can use them to help with reading and vocabulary skills, or assemble a group of riddles as an activity for a substitute teacher to use in your absence.
Students enjoy doing these solo, in pairs, or in groups.
The riddles are on the first pages, followed by a complete answer key. I hope you and your students enjoy them as much as we did in my classroom!
