I created this novel study to help my students engage with the wonderful novel, Riding Freedom, by Pam Muñoz Ryan. This packet can be used for independent work and/or small group work and includes character study, vocabulary, conflict analysis, figurative language, theme, and more. The study is aligned with Virginia SOLs (Standards of Learning) for ELA and CCSS (Common Core State Standards).

If your students love Esperanza Rising (who doesn't?), they will likely love Riding Freedom! Although this is a work of fiction, this book is based on the life of a real person - Charley Darkey Parkhurst, the first woman to vote in a U.S. election.

This bundle includes digital AND hard copy options. The questions on the printable task cards and the digital task cards are the same.
